OAVT Ottawa Symposium - Saturday, September 9, 2017

The OAVT is excited to announce an upcoming event in the Ottawa area! In conjunction with Royal Canin, the OAVT will be hosting a one-day symposium related to companion animal weight management. This one-day symposium is eligible for five CE credits.

The morning plenary sessions will be presented by Dr. Jackie Parr and will focus on the fundamentals of weight loss and how you can implement a weight loss program within your clinic. In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to select from three different sessions for each time slot. Topics will include: communicating and selling weight loss management plans, nutritional truths and adjunctive therapy.

Dr. Kris Chandroo As a film making veterinarian, Kristopher Chandroo (DVM, MSc) brings an ability to convey concepts and ideas through effective photography and storytelling. As the founder of iwillhelpyourcat.com and producer of courses for veterinarians and clients, Kristopher creates animal health videos that are remembered, shared, and create real connections and change with pet owners.
  Dr. Saye Clement

Dr. Saye Clement graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1993.  During her career, she has worked in emergency and general practice, as well as running a busy locum practice for a few years.  She currently is the co-owner of Carling Animal Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario where she keeps busy seeing patients, as well as managing Human Resources and Medical Protocol for the hospital.  She serves on the Advisory Board of the Uncharted Veterinary Conference, and is also member of the Owners Advisory Council for Vet Alliance.  

In her spare time, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the Thirteen Strings (a small chamber orchestra in Ottawa), as well as volunteering with several other local arts organizations. 

  Dr. Jackie Parr

Dr. Jackie Parr, an Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) '09 graduate, is a board certified veterinary clinical nutritionist with Royal Canin Canada and adjunct faculty at the OVC. Dr. Parr completed a rotating internship and a residency in clinical nutrition at Angell Animal Medical Centre in Boston, MA. During her internship, Dr. Parr was awarded the Dr. Sharon Drellich Memorial Award for professionalism, collegiality, and compassion. During her four years in Boston, she also completed a Masters in biochemical and molecular nutrition at Tufts University. Her minor was in human clinical nutrition and dietetics.

Dr. Parr returned to OVC in 2013 to complete her post-doctoral fellowship and spent the majority of her time seeing appointments or consulting on cases for the OVC Health Science Centre. She completed her post-doctoral work and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN) in July 2015. She was awarded the OVC Young Alumnus Award in June 2016. She continues to offer case consultations for fellow veterinarians at Royal Canin Canada one day per week.

Dr. Parr has given numerous continuing education lectures at conferences and veterinary schools across Canada. Her passions are teaching and social media. Dr. Parr enjoys rollerblading, weight lifting, watching hockey, and spending time with her dogs.
